Artist of the Week: Warpaint
Warpaint (2004) is an American indie quartet from Los Angeles formed by Emily Kokal (vocals, guitar), Theresa Wayman (guitar, vocals), Jenny Lee Lindberg (bass, backing vocals) and Stella Mozgawa (drums) who deals a sparse, atmospheric, dreamy and often psychedelic art rock that has been compared to both Cocteau Twins and Siouxsie and the Banshees.
After catching the attention of John Frusciante who produced their 2009 self-released debut EP Exquisite Corpse, the band released The Fool the following year, a much more subtle, mature, if not ghostly and sinister affair, that gained them some rave reviews, popularity and gigs in some of the biggest music festivals in US and the UK.
Warpaint, their new,Flood co-produced and long-awaited eponymous sophomore studio album, provides another great immersive, malevolent and mid-tempo listening experience that will definitely not only please the converted aficionados but also expand their growing fan base.
