Artist of the Week on Musikki – Ultraista

Ultraísta were founded in London 2011 by longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, vocalist Laura Bettinson and drummer Joey Waronker. Although Nigel is mostly known for his work as a producer and engineer (Radiohead, Beck, The Divine Comedy, Pavement, Air, among others) he is also a talented musician having played with Beck, Zero 7 and Brazzaville. He is also a fulltime member of Thom Yorke’s side project Atoms for Peace. Joey Waronker, also a member of Atoms for Peace, has played as live and studio musician with a wide range of acts such as M83, Leonard Cohen, Johnny Cash, Beck, Elliot Smith, Bat for Lashes, Rufus Wainwright and R.L. Burnside. Between 1998 and 2002, Waronker replaced Bill Berry as R.E.M’s drummer. These two prolific musicians and producers were joined by Laura Bettinson, formerly of Dimbleby & Capper, to release one of 2012’s best albums.
