Tom Waits premieres Musikki’s “Artist of the Week”

Artist of the Week – Tom Waits

When we first started discussing the criteria of our “Artist of The Week” highlight, we started asking ourselves who will be the first?

“Songs are really just interesting things to be doing with the air”, Tom Waits.

The American songwriter, composer, performer and actor career is filed with brilliant masterpieces. From the beautifully crafted “Tom Traubert’s Blues (Four Sheets to the Wind in Copenhagen)”, a derivative of the Australian classic folk song Waltzing Matilda, to the exquisite “Chocolate Jesus”, this multitalented storyteller is one of those rare cases that stayed truthful to his art and still manage to be critically acclaimed and commercial successful.

A good description of his eclectic genius was given by Neil Young on Tom’s induction into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame, “it could have been the motion picture Hall of Fame, it could have been the blues Hall of Fame, it could have been the performers artists Hall of Fame but it was the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that recognized the great Tom Waits”.

It had to be Tom Waits.
