Artist of the week: Parquet Courts
Parquet Courts (2010) are an American indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York, who quickly became darlings of both the music press and indie rock fans. The band consists of Fergus and Geronimo songwriter Andrew Savage (vocals, guitar), Austin Brown (vocals, guitar), Sean Yeaton (bass), and Max Savage (drums).
After releasing their debut, 2011’s American Specialties, exclusively on cassette, the band came up with the acclaimed Light Up Gold the following year: a record packed with punk-rock daily observations that reminded the energy of seminal bands such as Modern Lovers and The Feelies plus the sophisticated storytelling wit of Pavement.
Their third and recently released album, Sunbathing Animal, is not only another great collection of songs packed with great hooks, but also their most stylistically diverse effort yet, cementing Parquet Courts as one of the most fascinating American guitar acts of today.
