Artist of the week: Kaytranada
Kevin Celestin (aka Kaytranada) is a Port-au-Prince-born Montreal native that rose steadily from underground dancefloor funk remixes to gigs all over the world, thanks to the admiration he gathered to big names such as Madonna and Janet Jackson, who couldn’t be indifferent to his great production and remix work for tracks by the likes of Freddie Gibbs, Katy B and The Internet.
99,9% is Kaytranada’s debut full length and it features a array of top-notch collaborators such as Anderson .Paak, Vic Mensa, Little Dragon, Syd, Craig David, AlunaGeorge and BadBadNotGood that help to bring to life his vision of music for the dancefloor: Dilla-like beatmaking precision, modern boogie, confident basslines and shinning keyboards. One of the most inventive and groovy dance music records of the year.
João Pedro da Costa is a web studies scholar and a music fan.
