Artist of the Week: Metz
Metz (2007) are a Canadian punk-rock trio formed by vocalist and guitarist Alex Edkins, drummer Hayden Menzies and bassist Chris Slorach. In an age defined by soundcloudish rush and instagramic vanity, Metz took their time to release their eponymous debut (2012). The five-year gap between their first gig and their first album seemed to have been wisely used not only to fully shape their furious and brutalizing sound as well as to master the skills needed to capture the ferocity of their songs between the four walls of a recording studio.
Drenched in the frantic guitar/bass/drum assaults of bands such as Big Black, Public Image Ltd., Pixies, Nation of Ulysses, Shellac and The Jesus Lizard, Metz seem more than fit to join Japandroids in their quest to clench anyone’s thirst for new, loud and anthemic eruptions of sound.
